Sophie Watson is Professor of Sociology at the Open University and co-Director of the ESRC Centre for Research on Socio-Cultural Change. My recent research has concerned the making of multiple publics in city spaces; multicultural city spaces; religion, materiality and culture; street markets as sites of connection, innovation and sociality. My current research focus is on water in the city in its diverse cultural, material and socio-technical forms. Recent publications include: The New Blackwell Companion to the City ( 2011 editied with Gary Bridge); Suburban Drifts: mundane multiculturalism in outer London Forthcoming in Ethnic and Racial Studies (with Saha, A); Global Futures- reflections on culture, diversity and planning for the twenty first century.
