Taylor C. Nelms is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Irvine. His interests are in the politics and pragmatics of money, law, and everyday collective life, especially in the context of efforts to imagine and build alternative economies. His current research centers on dollarization and postneoliberal state transformation in Ecuador and on the sociopolitical imaginaries of emerging payment technologies. He has written on topics ranging from expert knowledge and bureaucracy in Ecuador's popular and solidarity economy to cell phone-enabled financial services, zombie banks, and Bitcoin. His work has been supported by the Wenner-Gren Foundation and the Filene Research Institute, among other organizations.
